How to Disable/Enable LAN through Command Prompt

This trick was first introduced to me by a friend  Kevin. This is just a simple trick but is really useful especially when you want to save time. This is for WINDOWS and will work only if you are in the user account with restrictions or with limited access to the system, meaning when you could not simply go to My Network Places and right click Local Area Network and Disable/Enable.

To do this, all you have to do is Go to Command Prompt and then type the following codes.

C:\> runas  /user:username "net stop DHCP"

Example if the administrator account is administrator

C:> runas /user:administrator "net stop DHCP"
then hit enter and it will prompt password for your administrator account.

When you want to enable it again, perhaps when you are done testing something. All you have to do is to replace "Stop" with "Start"

Example
C:>runas /user:administrator "net start DHCP".

This trick will surely save your time. When you are testing something, especially connectivity related trouble you can just use this instead of logging off and log in administrator account. Tested and working in xp and windows 7.

Avast Personal Review

Of all antivirus that I have tried using for a couple of years, only avast antivirus satisfy me. It is a  lightweight AV program, provides easy and fast installation, user friendly, faster detection of potential threats and it doesn't block any applications that you are trying to run or install, unless it contains threats that may harm your pc. Such applications with some risk included usually can be downloaded from free download site and  torrent site. We must  be aware of free downloads of full versions of a certain application in a torrent site. Some viruses could be inserted or pack up with the installer itself, located in the folder especially if it is compressed or in a ISO or image format or it could be in the key generator application that contains they key to unlock the application to make it a full version. Do not download such applications, it's piracy also and against the law.

Now back to my avast personal review. Avast has special features that is not present in some commonly used antivirus and it is "boot time scan". I've never seen this feature in other AV programs. This function will allow us to restart the system and scan the whole drive while the pc is on it's booting time. That way,  infections that is dominant already in the system especially infections in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 will be deleted or quarantined. The difference between scanning in booting time and scanning when we are log in to windows is that some threats could not be removed when pc is operational since it could be detected also as system file and deleting it or moving to quarantine is not available. That's the main purpose of boot time scan.

This review is for windows only, I am not used to other operating systems.
