Here are the steps:
1. Open image in that you are going to add border in photoshop (I am using CS4, but I guess this will work also in CS2 and other photoshop version). I am using here my own image to avoid copyright claims when using pictures found in the internet.
2. In photoshop, click on window menu then layers to view layers. If if is active already you will see this image on the right side of your photoshop window.
3. As you can see in the image above there is a portion which is highlighted in blue color, that is the layer. What you are going to do is to right click on that portion and a pop up window will appear. In that pop up window click duplicate layer. Now it should look like this just ignore the numbers in red font it just included there for step number 4.
4.Now we already have two layers, layer 0 which is marked "1". and background copy which is marked "2". Click on the duplicate layer, duplicate layer should be on top of the original layer. Do not drag it down or else you could not see your border. Refer to the image below, if your layer palette looks like that then lets proceed to step 5.
5. After clicking on the duplicate layer making it active. Click on Layer Menu then Layer Style and Select Blending Option.
A pop up window like this will appear right after clicking.
6. Now double click on stroke option and apply this settings. Set size to 7, position to inside, blend mode to normal, fill type to gradient and style to shape burst.Click OK and there you are, you already have a photo with a simple but a cool border.
Note: Changing values of those fields with arrows may give you varied results, try exploring when you got some free time. For now focus or review on steps how can you make this formal and elegant border. Drop by to this blog always to get some updates from me. Till next time.
